Mara Freeman is from Britain and has been a respected teacher of Celtic and British sacred traditions for over twenty years. She is an initiate of the Western magical arts through the lines of Dion Fortune and Gareth Knight. She is also an Archdruidess of the Irish Druid Clan of Dana and Honored Bard with the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. An international presenter and well-known storyteller in the Bardic tradition, Mara is author of many published articles, recordings, and the book, Kindling the Celtic Spirit, (HarperSanFrancisco, 2001.)  


Now dividing her time between California and Wales, Mara  teaches at many universities and learning centers, including Omega Institute, New York, Naropa University, Colorado, and the University of California. She is currently on faculty at Wisdom University in Oakland, California. 

Mara is a regular writer on Celtic spirituality for Parabola, the award-winning American journal of myth and tradition. She has written and directed multi-media productions on sacred earth-based traditions which have been performed at conferences, schools and colleges in North America and Canada, and produced three albums of Celtic stories and meditations set to music.

A licensed psychotherapist, Mara has degrees in Psychology, Literature, and Education. She has a private healing practice in the Celtic tradition of Anamcara, or soul-guidance work, using her extensive training in the arts of psychotherapy, astrology and seership.
